FREQUENTY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ Icon

Can SnapHouse parts be painted?

YES, all SnapHouse parts can be painted! We intentionally manufactured all the plastic parts with a matte, slightly textured finish so that they would easily take paint, as opposed to a super-smooth glossy finish which paint would not adhere to well. Two coats of an acrylic paint purchased from an arts supply store works especially well. For paint we suggest Blick Matte Acrylic Paints and for brushes these simple Crayola Big Paint Brush sets work well.

Can I build a model of any design I want that I create myself, or just those models seen on the website?

Yes, you can! While we encourage you to explore the sample models and drawings featured on our website for ideas and a deeper understanding of how the various system parts can be used, each SnapHouse part is designed with maximum versatility in mind to allow you to create models of your own designs.

Once I complete building a model can I disassemble it and use the same parts to build a completely new model?

Yes, you can! All the parts in the system are 100% reusable and are designed with snap-able tongue-and-groove connections, so you can make unlimited changes to your models as you envision and experiment with different ideas and configurations.

How exactly do the tongue-and-groove connections mentioned above work in the building system?

All the Panel parts in the system have grooves on each side and all the Intersection Connector parts have tongues that fit snugly into the Panel grooves. Additionally, the Tongue Connector parts can be used throughout your models to join two parallel Panels together where Intersection Connectors are not needed. Tongue Connectors are invisible when inserted into the grooves of two adjacent parallel Panels to form a flush, flat surface.

Can SnapHouse models be used on N scale model train layouts?

N scale is a 1:160 ratio and the SnapHouse scale is based on the popular architectural scale of 1:48 (also known as "O" scale). So SnapHouse structures are larger than what are commonly used for model train sets. For easier comparison, 1 real inch in N scale is equal to 13 1/3 scale feet, and 1 real inch in the SnapHouse system is equal to 4 scale feet.

What age range is SnapHouse intended for?

The SnapHouse building system and kit are intended for ages 13 years and older. It is not a construction toy suitable for children ages 12 and younger.

Is shipping free on all orders?

Shipping is free on any order totaling $100.00 or above. So, if you purchase an all-inclusive SnapHouse kit shipping is free. If you are only purchasing individual sets of parts and your total cart value is less than $100.00 a shipping charge will be added based on the total weight of the package and its destination.

What is carbon offset shipping and how is the SnapHouse company contributing towards it?

For every product SnapHouse ships, we purchase carbon offsets through Ecocart. Our contributions go directly to the Garcia River Forest Project, which protects a forest on California’s North coast that enables the storage of more than 77,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. You can learn more about our Sustainability Program here.
